Color of Love...

So its the last day in January. How is that possible already? 11 more months and its 2014! Whoa, I know, getting a bit ahead of myself there.  One day at a time.  Or 14 days until Valentine's Day (for those in love) and Singles Awareness Day (for those not).  And regardless of your love status, I think we can all enjoy a reason to buy a new outfit.

Let there be space...

One of the downsides of being a renter is that you have very minimal, if any at all, space modification options.  Meaning you can't remodel, you sometimes can't even paint, you can't make permanent improvements to the space.  Another downside is a lack of storage. While I keep attempting to downsize our stuff in general, it feels like I'm going in circles.

Accessorize and do good...

This would have been a good post to do during the holidays, since we're all looking for good things to spend our money on.  But this this the kind of thing we should spend our money on year-round, so any time is a good time to write about this.

Yum-fort food....

Lulu's Soup
I spent an hour or so at the end of my weekend making some yum-fort (aka yummy comfort) food to eat throughout the week. Yummy, but still pretty healthy.  Broccoli cheddar soup is one of my favorite chowder-y soups, and I found this recipe by Lulu the Baker, and it looked yummy.  It makes way too much for just one meal, so its perfect for a few days of easy lunches or dinners.  Plus, the weather in LA has been a bit cool this winter (minus the freak heat wave we had last week), and a good soup on a cold night always hits the spot.

Modern Hawaii style...

I'm going to try to start posting more of my personal style pictures, to document my attempts at finding my adult style. (Finding a good photographer to help with that is on my to-do list. Or at least getting a better camera for my husband to use. For now, these will have to do.)

First attempt here, some images from an outfit I wore for our first nice dinner out while visiting Kauai.  We went to The Beach House Restaurant, which is right on the water's edge facing the west, so it has a gorgeous and unobstructed view of the sunset every night.  It's one of the "fancier" restaurants on Kauai, which is still extremely casual by LA standards.  The food was delish, I had a watermelon feta salad and the seafood bisque. Very full by the end of dinner, and all diners were happy.  We've dined there every time we've visited Kauai.

Keeping the glow....

Without regular sun exposure, I am naturally pretty pale. And since I work in an office by day, and it's winter hours now and the daily sunlight is short, I'm about at my palest. I was hoping that a few days in Hawaii I would come home with a warm glow at least, if not an actual tan, but with my steady use of sunscreen (always must wear sunscreen, but especially if you are pale and heading closer to the equator) and our limited time spent just laying out, I'm about the same color I was before I left.

Mahalo Kauai....

Kauai is one of my husband's and my favorite places to vacation.  We're not that hugely world traveled, so there may be other places I like just as much if not more, but Kauai will always be special to us because it was where we honeymooned.  We've been back two times since, this last time being just this past week, over the MLKJr holiday weekend, Wednesday through Monday.  Flying from Los Angeles, one of the closest departure points on the mainland, its not too bad a flight, though there aren't enough non-stop directly to Kauai.  We had to change planes in Honolulu, and while not a long layover, it still makes the trip several hours longer, cutting in to our day on the island. Oh well.
